| Criterion Validity – Concurrent | |||||||||||||||

This method for assessing the validity of a test involves demonstrating that the test meaningfully predicts some real-world criterion. For example, a valid test of abstract reasoning ability intelligence would be expected to predict academic performance, particularly in science and mathematics. Moreover, there are two types of criterion validity - predictive validity and concurrent validity. Concurrent validity assesses whether the scores on a test can be used to predict a criterion which is available at the time the test was completed, e.g. can a test of fluid intelligence predict a scientist’s current publication record. |
